Retro Quickstart Guide
A downloadable book
This is a collection of pages that explains basic usage of various devices for retro computers. It is not meant to be a comprehensive documentation, just something that you could use when you only want to load a game, or when organizing retro computer exhibition where there might be a huge variety of computers and devices (my use-case). It is also a quick reminder if you simply forgot how to operate specific device.
Regular PDF is meant to be read on a computer, while booklet is meant to be printed and used on location. When printing booklet, make sure to do it two sided, flip on long edge (which is usual option).
Project is hosted on https://bitbucket.org/zzarko/retro-quick-start/
There is a Python script that renders Markdown pages into PDF document for reading on a computer, and can make another PDF that could be printed as a booklet. So, you can generate PDFs on your own, or use the script for a completely different purpose.
So far I have added more than 30 devices for various retro computers. I will add more content as I re-introduce myself to various machines and devices, and there is so many of them (and from my perspective, that is a good thing).
The information in this book comes from many, many internet sources. I do not claim to be the author of all the text, some is copied, some re-written, and some is written completely by me from my own experience.
If you are interested in contributing to this project, please check project page about how to do it. The whole structure of the project was made with end-user simplicity in mind, meaning that adding new content is simple and straight-forward. That is also the reason behind book's design. I know that it is not the greatest you have ever seen, but that was not the main goal in the first place.
